The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization, led by volunteers,
that provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent,
prepare for, and respond to emergencies. It does this through services
that are consistent with its congressional charter and the principles
of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
The Monroe County Chapter follows this mission in its work for the communities
of Monroe County, as well as the Townships of Porter and Lehman in the
neighboring county of Pike. Monroe County is a resort county whose population
fluctuates with the seasonal attractions of the Poconos. Our Chapter was
chartered on May 16, 1917 as a result of World War I. The Chapter has
remained active since then, growing and working tirelessly to meet the
ever changing needs of our residents.
One of the most satisfying aspects of working in the American Red Cross
is being part of a long-established and highly respected organization
with worldwide affiliations. Respect for the Red Cross is based on the
uniformly high standards of performance and service that are established
by the organization. Every local chapter benefits from this respect and
has, at the same time, the freedom to manage its own affairs in accordance
with national policies and regulations.

Your local Red Cross chapter is committed to meeting the humanitarian
needs of the people in your area, be it in single family fires, disaster
preparedness, disaster response, first aid and CPR training, or disease
prevention. You can help support your local chapter programs and services
by a gift to American Red Cross of Monroe County.
