All prospective disaster volunteers must have completed a
volunteer application prior to registering for any disaster training

register for the next available class.
So that we can have sufficient training materials, it is necessary to register
at least one week prior to the class. There is no charge for any of
these classes, but you must register. Classes will be held at
the Monroe County chapter office 322 Park Ave., Stroudsburg, PA
Introduction to Disaster Services
The purpose of this basic level Disaster Services online course is to engage and inspire the public to actively participate in supporting American Red Cross disaster response. This self-study course will introduce learners to American Red Cross Disaster Services and allow them to discover how volunteers support this critical mission and to explore ways they can become involved in a local chapter.
This course is a prerequisite to all other Disaster Services training.

Fulfilling Our Mission
Translating Your Compassion into Community Action
This course is a basic, entry level instructor-led course, which introduces potential disaster volunteers and members of other local agencies to the role of the Red Cross in the community's actions in preparing for, responding to and recovering from emergencies and disasters. It provides the foundation of service delivery standards for the American Red Cross by considering the Fundamental Principles and Values of the Red Cross and how they would apply throughout the disaster cycle (prepare, respond and recover).

Shelter Operations
The purpose of this basic level Disaster Services course is to prepare employees and volunteers of the Red Cross and other agencies to manage shelter operations effectively and sensitively as a team while meeting the needs of people displaced as a result of a disaster.

Shelter Simulation
The purpose of this training is to provide participants with an opportunity to apply the knowledge, skills and abilities required to operate a successful shelter.
Materials: Participants must bring their workbooks from the Shelter Operations course to use in this class.

Fundamentals of Disaster Assessment
The purpose of this course is to introduce the critical role of Disaster Assessment, explore related preparedness tasks, learn how to collect and communicate disaster assessment information, and become familiar with how disaster assessment information supports management and service delivery decisions. This course is comprised of two parts. Part 1 (online component) is comprised of six self-paced learning modules. It is estimated that it takes approximately 3.5-4 hours to complete all six modules. The on-line segment must be completed prior to attending Part 2 of the class. Prior knowledge of computers is not necessary. You can access Part 1 of this course from home or at the Chapter, with assistance from Chapter staff as needed.

Logistics: An Overview
The purpose of this course is to provide basic information about the processes of Material Support Services activities in support of an American Red Cross disaster relief operation. Participants will learn about the skills, abilities and knowledge needed by Material Support Services workers and how they can become involved in their local chapter.

Home Alone Program
"Home Alone Program" is a disaster preparedness education program for youth ages 11-14yrs. Participants will learn how to prepare for a disaster by making an emergency plan and a disaster kit.

Psychological First Aid
The course provides a framework for understanding the factors that affect stress responses in disaster relief workers and the clients they serve. In addition, it provides practical suggestions about what you can say and do as you practice the principles of Psychological First Aid. The purpose of this class is to prepare all American Red Cross workers, potential disaster volunteers and members of local agencies to provide basic care, comfort and support to people who are experiencing disaster–related stress.

Mass Care Overview
The purpose of this basic level Disaster Services training is to provide an overview of the activities performed by the Mass Care group in support of a disaster relief operation.
